Noeline Dickey
Topics: rabbits, farming, Glenfoyle, family life, school, community groups
Noeline Dickey (née Pearson) and her twin sister were born in Ranfurly near where her Great Grandparents had settled after emigrating from England and Scotland in the 1860s.
After several moves, they came to the Upper Clutha to manage a rabbit infested property 5 miles from Luggate on the Tarras Road. Their first income was from selling rabbit skins! Her father purchased the 10,000 acre property called Glenfoyle.
Noeline met her husband Dave and after a four-year courtship they were married in 1954. She has lived in the Upper Clutha for the majority of her 90 years. She remains an active participant in many community groups and has allowed us to record her recollections of growing up, attending school, working and raising a family of five sons in a unique corner of paradise.
