Beryl Wayatt

Topics: Wānaka, immigration, Playcentre and schooling, mountaineering

Beryl reflects on managing her home life with running a guiding business and recalls ‘small town’ Wānaka from last century. As a new immigrant to the Upper Clutha area in the mid 1970’s, she appreciated the Plunket infant health system, participated in the “PlayCentre” early education for young children and had to get used to New Zealand’s lack of Central Heating in homes! Now retired; she comments on Wānaka’s vibrant and popular lecture series with the Royal Society and the University of The Third Age.
