Bill Gibson

Topics: farming, Sheep Dog Trials

William Hector Gibson was born into farming life at Malvern Downs, Tarras. He attended Tarras Primary school and his farming education included ‘Jackaroo’ing’ in Australia. Some of his past roles include president of the New Zealand Merino Breeders’ Association, presenting at international merino conferences, Chairman of the Lindas Rabbit Board and 30 years as secretary of the Wanaka Collie Dog Club. Bill introduced Polled sheep into New Zealand in 1950 and recalls his successes at A & P shows for Malvern Downs wool entries. He has seen many changes in farming practices, and in the sale and promotion of merino wool and of course, rabbit control. During the interviews, he also explains rules and regulations around dog trialling.
