Topics: Mount Aspiring College, education, retirement
When Maurie Jackways became the Deputy Principal of Mt Aspiring College in 1991, he was best known as the father of 3 talented youngsters – Tim, Will and Francie. With a roll of only 200 students, the school was threatened with closure so Principal Mike Allison and Maurie embarked on an innovative plan to set up a Sports Academy. Maurie was appointed Principal of MAC in 1998 and remained at the school until 2008. In that time the school roll trebled and Maurie gained his reputation as an enlightened and insightful Principal. His career took him overseas and around New Zealand, but he retired to Wānaka in 2020.
